古典文学というものが見捨てられ？てこの方・・、ということもないのか、このオタワ公立図書館のステンドグラス・・ちょっといいですね。カナダですが、4人はイギリスの文学者ですね。

一番上が、シェイクスピア（William Shakespeare, 1564- 1616）、左の下から2番目が、今日も詩を挙げているテニスン（Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, 1809- 1892）・・
その上はチャールズ・・ディケンズ（Charles John Huffam Dickens, 1812 - 1870）。

右の列は下からダンカン・キャンベル・スコット Duncan Campbell Scott (1862-1947),バイロンGeorge Gordon Byron (1788-1824)、

その上のアーチボルド・ランプマン（Archibald Lampman、1861- 1899）は、カナダの詩人というが・・よく知らない・・

wonder驚嘆とderision嘲笑の間のバランスってなんでしょうね・・少しわかる・・

トーマス・ムーアThomas Moore （1779～1852）は、NHKの朝のドラマの「マッサン」（とエリーの）スコットランド民謡・・！

世界は文学でできている

[世界は文学でできている]のかどうか分かりませんが、この本で沼野充義氏が書いておられるように、
カノンcanon=正典=古典的作品の総体は不変ではない。全体像を把握しきれないほど膨大な数の本がごちゃごちゃと積み重ねられてしまった現代だから、権威あるリストを想像することさえ難しい。新しい可能を目指さなければならない時代に差し掛かった。池澤夏樹さんが個人編集した世界文学全集は成功した例。
世界文学というのは一定の選びぬかれた作品のリストではなく、読み方の問題なのかもしれない。(byディヴィッド・ダムロッシュ)

現代の本の読み方は、自分の楽しみのため、自分の心のために読む。最初から与えられたリストに従って｢これだけは読まなきゃ｣と自分を縛りなが読むのではなく、読みたいものを夢中になって読んでいるうちに、次に読みたい本がまた出てきて、その結果、自分の視界が世界に向かって広がっていくというのが本当は一番いい。（P100)
